Our Approach to Custom Home Framing Across the GTA
Framing a custom home is where scale meets precision — the structure is large and complex, but every wall, floor, and roof plane still has to land within a fraction of an inch, because everything downstream depends on it. Our approach is drawing-driven and disciplined. We start by studying the architectural and engineered plans in full, confirming beam sizes, load paths, and connection details before a single stick is cut, and we lay out the entire structure carefully so walls stack, openings line up floor to floor, and the roof lands exactly where it should. We frame square, plumb, and level as a matter of course, carry load paths cleanly from the roof down through the beams and posts to the foundation, and install every structural connector the engineer specifies. Because a house is framed in stages, we sequence the work so each level is complete and inspected before the next goes up, and we coordinate closely with the builder and the trades — plumbers, electricians, HVAC — so their rough-ins have clean, correctly framed paths. The result is a structure that is not just strong, but genuinely straight and true for the whole finishing process.
Framing Materials and Systems We Build With
We frame custom homes with kiln-dried dimensional lumber and engineered wood products — LVL and PSL beams, engineered I-joists, and rim board — all sized and located to the structural engineer's drawings. Roof structures are framed stick-built or with engineered trusses depending on the design, with structural sheathing gapped and fastened to the code nailing schedule. Structural connections use engineered hangers, post bases, hold-downs, and hurricane ties from Simpson Strong-Tie, installed with the specified fasteners. Where the design calls for steel beams and columns, we coordinate their placement and tie the wood framing into them correctly. Sheathing is structural-grade plywood or OSB with proper house-wrap and flashing detailing so the shell stays dry through construction. Pressure-treated stock and moisture barriers are used everywhere framing meets concrete or grade. Throughout, we build strictly to the engineered and architectural drawings and to the Ontario Building Code — on a whole-house frame there is no room for improvisation, and our crews treat the drawings as the specification they are.
